Commodity Manager（for new product）
Report to Sourcing Manager
Same as Purchasing Liaison/Representative in USA
PURPOSE OF JOB：
Lead product development from a procurement perspective，providing a smooth transition from development into production. Work closely with buyers，engineers，and suppliers to reduce the product development cycle while improving the value of purchased components.
SCOPE：
Manage the support of multiple New Product design teams. Complete make vs. Buy analysis and obtain consensus from Graco manufacturing and purchasing for each make vs. Buy decision. Ensure the correct process is chosen for each purchased part. Implement alternatives to reduce leadtime for long leadtime components by involving suppliers upfront and by the use of the following：rapid prototyping，cutting tool steel concurrent with design，etc. Secure prototype，field test，and first lot production parts for manufacturing. Manage timely completion of first articles. Communicate project timing to buyers and suppliers.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES/DUTIES：
1. Initiate upfront supplier and buyer involvement-“kick-off meetings”with engineering，purchasing，and the supplier to drive shorter product development time.
2. Drive standardization of components in development and supplier reduction. Communicate the need for new suppliers/commodities when necessary to Purchasing Department. Responsible for coordinating quoting with buyers，using eoq‘s developed with the planner.
3. Provide new product update meetings for the Purchasing Department. This meeting will cover markets，timing，forecasted volumes，etc.
4. Coordinate all engineering handwritten requisitions for tooling，prototype，and field test parts.
5. Ensure that TIMS system is updated accordingly（PO21，IN01）。
6. Communicate tooling leadtime and status of all parts，tooled or standard，to the engineering project manager.
7. Responsible for the purchasing portion of Phase Exit reviews，including confirmation of supplier selection and approval，first article completion，and accurate standard costs.
8. Responsible for make vs. Buy analysis，input into eoq’s and pricing，and completion of first articles prior to RFS.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS：
Essential：
BA/BS degree in Business，Engineering，Materials Management or equivalent.
Minimum of 8 years purchasing experience with progressive responsibilities and strong cross-commodity experience.
Minimum 3 years in Engineering/New Product Development capacity.
Strong communication skills to support necessary interaction with suppliers，requisitioners，support groups，engineers，and management.
Strong team player skills.
Broad knowledge of castings，sheet metal，machining，injection molding，electronics，and other commodities used in Graco products.
Must be motivated self-starter who can handle problems with minimal supervision.
Must be flexible in commodity assignments and be proficient in managing priorities.
Must have industrial manufacturing experience.
Must be proficient in reading and understanding blueprints，specifications，and tolerances.
Desirable：
BS degree in engineering
CPM/APICS or actively pursuing certification.
